Entering the Depths of the Earth

an ancient tunnel deep beneath the earth, walls glowing with an eerie pale blue glow

“We can cut our way through the dragons.” Tolda tapped his brother Golda’s shoulder and pointed to a small opening near the top of the cave mouth.

The adult dragons had fallen such that their bodies landed upon each other, their weight caught the edge of the nest and caused it to hinge upward like a huge gate, making it a formidable portcullis of sorts. They could see shadows cast through the top of the opening and hear the muffled sounds of bitter combat happening outside through tight gaps at the edges, but there was no way to squeeze through and join.

Then, suddenly, the dark cave lit up as the male’s carcass was dragged away by giants and the sounds of the battle raging erupted at full volume, echoing down into the cave. As soon as it was out of the way, the giant Khangah tugged the female away. Other giants ran in and swung the nest out of the opening, sending the dragon’s wooden construction rollin…
