You may be wondering who this narrating author is, well it is me. Narrating professionally since 2010, I broke me teeth as it were in podcast audiobooks way back in the early days, in 2006 via a website called Podiobooks.com, now known as Scribl.com. My own first novels were all started right over there, breaking into both writing and narrating at the same time.
In 2010 I narrated a short story series for a group of writers over at a blog called The Kill Zone, they liked it. One them, best selling writer John Gilstrap, asked his publisher to request me for his novels. They did, and next thing I knew I was working for Audible, then several other publishers and I have not looked back since. I have narrated scores of titles from fast action thrillers like John’s, to motivational works and non-fiction, to heavy duty science, history, and religious texts. I truly enjoy it all.
Producing audiobooks is a lot of fun if you are into spending hours trying to make things right. A lot folks think they want to become an audiobook narrator, or even a podcaster, but few realize just how much work is involved in each step of the way.
A general guideline is that for every 1 hour of audiobook enjoyment you receive, it took as much as 10 hours of actual labor to create the finished product between narrating, proofing, editing, mastering, posting, and publishing. So that twelve hour audiobook you knocked out in three days on the commute listening at 2x speed took up to 120 hours of human labor to create, that is three forty hour work weeks for just one relatively short audiobook.
