Kharzai's Dream
A Memory of Crossing
I see a river of crystalline aquamarine.
It springs from The Mountain,
Cloud adorned peak rising beyond the sky
To the Realm of Beyond Above.
The river flows from The One.
The Throne.
The Forever.
I drink.
I live.
I pass through the Pillars of Fire
Bow to the glory of
The Seen.
The True.
Revived.
Refreshed.
Alive in full I return to the world of men.
I look across the River that
Divides the Infinite from the
Time locked world of humanity.
I watched from the shore that sees but cannot be seen.
Mankind, male and female,
They each alone must decide
How they will join immortality.
Alas few even realize the test they are in.
They stroll along and
pretend they do not grow closer to the River every day.
They imagine they can push it away
As the quiet water laps at their ankles.
Fruitless fantasies.
The River is moved by none.
Neither man, nor angel, nor ones like me.
The day of your crossing was written
Before you were an Is.
All mortals must cross at their appointed time.
For men, this crossing is always, ever, only, one way.
I cross.
Returning to the land of men.
Walking out of a vibrant land
Where radiance flows from the Alive
Light that flitters like living, sparkling gems,
Shimmering against streets of purest gold.
Stepping across to a land of burning sun
Filtered through filthy, grey, rain-choked clouds
Onto cities of red iron and black smoke.
I step from Light to Earth.
From mystic angel song,
The vibration of eternal joy,
To the voice of chickadee, robin, and raven,
Yearning to mimic from their trees
The song they hear on me.
That tune and rhythm still reverberating from my body.
The life blessing chorus of the place I just left.
My feet rest again on physical soil.
Dirt between my toes.
Air fills my lungs.
I push my light, that mark of my kind, deep into my flesh.
Turning off that part of us that men once had
The light that emanates from within.
I reduce and dim myself until I appear as a man alive, and mortal.
Striding forth I am solid flesh, blood, mind, hands, feet, mouth, ears, eyes.
I see, smell, taste, hear, touch, talk, feel, love, laugh, create, destroy.
I am a servant of The One.
Sent to do amongst men that which
One day rewards,
Another day judges,
One day gives peace,
Yet another
Applies judgment unto death.
I am a friend to those who seek peace.
I am a brother to the merciful warrior.
I am an embrace to bring comfort.
I am a sword against the wicked.
I am a servant of The Lord.
