This is one of Argan’s stories I had at first thought misfiled in a box with records from nearly four thousand years earlier. But once I read SHADOW OF THE BASTARD KING, I realised this was not at all misfiled…it was just late filed.

“Chief Inspector, this way if you please.”
The ghoulish SS Oberscharführer called out through a veil of icy rain, billows of steam on each breath. He raised a Nazi salute at the approaching officer of the Kriminalpolizei, commonly called Kripo. Behind the officer strode his driver, a giant of a man in the uniform of a police sergeant the SS man’s head barely reached the driver’s shoulders. He followed the chief inspector as they crossed the space to a large concrete block building, eyes methodically scanning the surroundings as gravel crunched under the soles of their leather boots.
“Good day Chief Inspector, I am SS Oberscharführer Maus, aid to Standartenführer Vâlk. He has been waiting for you.”
